Artwork Drop Off

Down to London today to drop off some artwork to Artiq.
Took the London train to Marylebone. Luckily middle of the day loads of legroom. Often its standing room only at rush hour!
Amazing spaces they have on the canal in Containerville. Some great silhouettes, tonal lights and darks, shadow and light etc on our walk on the canal!
Great graffiti around the London canals. Differs from Birmingham graffiti in that it is added to.
There is so much writing thats not spray paint but markers etc. Passers by making their mark? I did not add anything but now think perhaps I should have. Its in itself an interactive artwork.

Art, Artists and Galleries

At the Midlands Art Centre in Edgbaston, Birmingham, for an interesting exhibition featuring Sabiheh Awanzai Mahmood and Farwa Moledina about heritage, acceptance and cultural awareness.

Inspirations

I absolutely adore flowers for their colour and grace. This camellia is from a bush in my garden. It belonged to someone I knew and I have inherited it for now. When you plant something, you give something to the world which carries on giving for you.

Photography

Some inspirational reflections. Its great to walk about the fields and come across a lovely little stream. I didnt have to walk far as this is at the bottom of my garden. Walking for the lazy man!

Painting Progress

This month alongside some small works I have been working on some larger pieces. I have some ideas around the subject of sensory perception and translating that into paint. This piece for instance is very heightened in colour and tone and is kind of toxic looking even. Jarring and unrelaxing I would say.

Painting Archive

'Journey' 100x100cm, Acrylic on canvas.
This one from the archive, was taken at one of the exhibitions I curated at The Custard Factory, in their then Lakeside Gallery.
The painting is an abstract of a window and has an abstracted wall area and a view. In the wall area there is an under layer of various colours and texture denoting 'the past', visible but veiled, and covered with the gold. The gold is 'The now', shiney and in your face, and then the dark area through the window which is not a solid colour but a layered wash of different darks, denotes the void or the future which is hidden, however you may have an inkling as to what it might be or where you might go based on whats happening now hence its not a solid colour but tonally variable as possibilities are endless.
Most of my work is about a journey of one sort or another and the human participating. Also here to the right is artwork by Paul Hirst.

Out and About

at the RBSA.
Rob Perry, celebrated black country artist gave a really good speech at Marie Considine's leaving party. She will be missed especially her smiley face. I don't think I have ever seen her grumpy!
Also some great artwork up in the cafe area. Check out there exhibitions, they regularly change them and have lots for artists to get involved in and in fact anyone to participate in. RBSA.org
