'My paintings are a reflection on aspects of landscape, culture and the nature of being, inviting viewers into spaces that feel both familiar and open to interpretation.

The works explore the social and cultural resonance of landscape through abstract painting processes which can be spontaneous but often develop and evolve naturally over a period of time.

Although mainly painted in oil; acrylics, watercolours and mixed media techniques are used from time to time depending on surface, project or series.

The choice of colour, paint and gesture are manipulated to emphasise the context of the work in the painterly space.

I am influenced by early experiences with colour and textiles and a lifelong engagement with making.'

The 'Colour Intuition' series of paintings explore landscape through colour, and process as well as sensory observation and perception. These paintings are not intended to describe specific places, but to evoke the feeling of being within a landscape—its light, movement, and atmosphere.

Colour is used as the starting point and guiding force. Layers are built, adjusted, and partially revealed, allowing earlier marks to remain present within the surface. This creates a sense of depth and history, where each painting feels formed over time rather than applied in a single moment.

The works move between structure and openness. At times, suggestions of horizon, field, or sky appear, but they are never fixed. Instead, they shift and dissolve, encouraging the viewer to engage with the painting slowly and intuitively.

Across the series, there is a focus on how colour can hold space, create movement, and suggest place without defining it. The result is a body of work that invites reflection and personal interpretation, offering landscapes that feel both familiar and open.
