Pein Air

I am quite getting into Plein Air painting and sketching. Here I was in the garden so nowhere fancy and I liked this particular painting (above) as I have retained light and contrast. Also its quite abstract as well as having aspects of the landscape. Below is an ink painting in plein air.

Out And About Inspirations

Around Birmingham City. Walking over to Reuben Coley Gallery through town was quite fun today. Lots of colourful arrangements here and there. I liked this one and the green taxi made it superb! Close up tho they weren't real flowers which was a bit disappointing! Although abstract photography is where I am at, I can never resist flowers. Its the colours they are so vibrant!

Painting Progress

This month oil painting experiments continue. The paintings that are appearing are not what I expect and find I want to change them but sitting back and looking, I begin to get that its all about where I am and if this is where I am then this is what they are.The series is about sensory perception. When viewed at close quarters they are full of chaos and colour but if you step back they are calm and collected.

Painting Archive

'Rome 1-9' 10x10cm, Oil and acrylic on canvas and linen.
One from the archive are the 'Rome' Paintings. There is something intimate about small pieces of work. Very tactile. I feel about small paintings as I do about embroidery. You are in control of every stitch and you are focusing on detail.

Art and Artists

Visits to The Reuban Coley Gallery in Birmingham, The Campden Gallery in Chipping Campden and The Little Buckland Gallery in Broadway.

Roxana Halls

At Reuban Coley Gallery in Colmore Row, Birmingham, I met Roxana Halls who was in for a chat about her work. Lovely artist. The paintings were about issues surrounding perception and attitude. Although women are depicted, I am sure the idea applies to all. The message I got was 'be yourself'.
The show is up until the 1st June. Well worth visiting. For more about Roxana and her work goto her website: RoxanaHalls.com

Reuban Colley

Reuban Colley's own work also featured alongside others including David Hockney. The Gallery is such a gem, it's light and spacious and in the middle of Birmingham. They have some great exhibitions, and some great local artists such as Stephen Earl Rogers have also featured in their exhibitions.

Lewis Noble

Some absolutely gorgeous paintings up at Chipping Campden Gallery by Lewis Noble. All based around aspects of landscape. I had been looking forward to the exhibition for weeks and the work is stunning!
Lewis Noble paints plein air and then creates collage which he uses as sketches for larger paintings. He has definitely inspired me. I have been online watching his utube vids which are great for inspiration and make you want to get out and paint in a field.
They were quite helpful to me as I had a deadline for an article on plein air painting but had never really done much before. So I decided to experience this quite traditional way of painting before writing the article. My verdict was, 'get out there, you don't know what you 're missing!'
