This tiny oil painting on freeflowing canvas was a geat medium and surface to get down these berries you come across when walking in the neighbourhoods. At night the Xmas lights appear as shiny berries in the dark. All very festive and jolly!

This painting was inspired by a photograph of a walk. I was working out a watercolour process which I think worked as the photo was not as atmospheric and the tree has taken on a darker aspect than the tree in th pic.

Most of my paintings here are experiments as I like to mess about and see what I get. This started out as a drip painting . Sort of obvious and to give it an absract quality it did not posess, I added a wash of grey gesso which mixed and became grey, works for me. The drips are great for creating twisted branches and the red symbolic of rituals and tribalism.

'Island Cloud' Oil Landscape Painting

Usually sitting on the highest point somewhere. A hill or mountain. I can't really tell whether its one or the other. Perhaps a mountain is not easily climbable but a hill is? You can wander up the hill and stay there all day if you wish but at some point the clouds lift and it's a bit too hot to hang around. With this oil painting I wanted to emphasise the heat as well as the clouds. The hot and the cool, the Ying and the Yang. Something about balance.

'Island Geography' Acrylic Landscape Painting

The geography of a land is quite interesting to me. The differences and similarities between countries or counties even. There is always a little house or shack parked a distance from the road. The isolation of the place and the peace you would get from little traffic and even that at a distance. On the other hand you can be quite at peace and closed off to all noise if you listen only to what and who you choose to, via your headphones for instance!

The summer continues in Athens although not as hot as it was during July and August. The painting alludes to the heat of summer but also to the passions of the people in terms of justice and freedom. I walked in the student neighbourhoods but also the main streets alongside hundreds of people who gathered, marched and declared in a unified voice.

Downside is, it's really built up and full of pollution but there is a bit of relief with the small park areas scattered about as well as the potted plants on the streets. What it needs are electric vehicles only!

All around the city are lovely flowering shrubs and plants. A lot in pots in doorways or just out on the street infront of apartments and buildings and certainly cafes and restaurants. You can't go everywhere in the city if you have access problems though as most of the pavements are quite up and down and not wide enough for a wheelchair. Even with a walking stick there is the possibility of tripping. And the pot plants are also in the way. But they do give a lovely atmosphere of a garden to the place.

Athens has a lovely mix of naturally occuring hills and mountains and man made concrete structures. Here I wanted to juxtapose the two most obvous elements of the city. Despite the searing heat of summer the hills appear quite green!

'Paros Winds' Watercolour Landscape Painting

The winds are picking up and lots of the summer crowd have left or are leaving. The island is still beautiful and sunny but maybe winds are hard to deal with. Certainly biking in the wind is a struggle. Economically the summer is great for the island but the winter, not so good. There is also a workforce shortage as they can't afford the holiday and air bnb prices that the owners of the properties charge as the pay doesn't tally. So there are lots of beautiful but empty properties and at the same time not enough housing to sustain the local working people.

Paros houses and buildings are little white cube shapes cut in and out of the landscape. Like nougat versions of lego perhaps. The Windmills a bit more distinctive but also with the white reflecting against the night sky.

The land appears so dry and burnt in areas of the island but in the gardens there are some lovely little shrubs with flowers blooming bringing colour to the brown and grey landscape. I was particularly taken with a shrub and it's yellow flowers by a tree in the courtyard.

Walking along past the bent over trees sculptured by the wind. A particulr garden has a couple of such trees and in other areas of the island too. The winds can be fierce. With this sketch painting I wanted to capture the early evening aspect with shadows and sunsetting sky.

On the hillsides houses with cobalt doors and windows. Telegraph poles and stone walls. I attempted to capture the essence of the walk via color and line.
