This tiny oil painting on freeflowing canvas was a geat medium and surface to get  down these berries you come across when walking in the neighbourhoods.  At night the Xmas lights appear as shiny berries in the dark.  All very festive and jolly!

Most of my paintings here are experiments as I like to mess about and see what I get.  This started out as a drip painting .  Sort of obvious and to give it an absract quality it did not posess, I added a wash of grey gesso which mixed and became grey, works for me.  The drips are great for creating twisted branches and the red symbolic of rituals and tribalism.

 'Island Cloud' Oil Landscape Painting

Usually sitting on the highest point somewhere.  A hill or mountain.  I can't really tell whether its one or the other.  Perhaps a mountain is not easily climbable but a hill is? You can wander up the hill and stay there all day if you wish but at some point the clouds lift and it's a bit too hot to hang around.  With this oil painting I wanted to emphasise the heat as well as the clouds.  The hot and the cool, the Ying and the Yang.  Something about balance.

The geography of a land is quite interesting to me.  The differences and similarities between countries or counties even. There is always a little house or shack parked a distance from the road.  The isolation of the place and the peace you would get from little traffic and even that at a distance. On the other hand you can be quite at peace and closed off to all noise if you listen only to what and who you choose to, via your headphones for instance!

All around the city are lovely flowering shrubs and plants.  A lot in pots in doorways or just out on the street infront of apartments and buildings and certainly cafes and restaurants.  You can't go everywhere in the city if you have access problems though as most of  the pavements are quite up and down and not wide enough for a wheelchair.  Even with a walking stick there is the possibility of tripping.  And the pot plants are also in the way.  But they do give a lovely atmosphere of a garden to the place.

Athens has a lovely mix of naturally occuring hills and mountains and man made concrete structures.  Here I wanted to juxtapose the two most obvous elements of the city.  Despite the searing heat of summer the hills appear quite green!

The winds are picking up and lots of the summer crowd have left or are leaving.  The island is still beautiful and sunny but maybe winds are hard to deal with.  Certainly biking in the wind is a struggle.  Economically the summer is great for the island but the winter, not so good.  There is also a workforce shortage as they can't afford the holiday and air bnb prices that the owners of the properties charge as the pay doesn't tally.  So there are lots of beautiful but empty properties and at the same time not enough housing to sustain the local working people.

'Rainfog' Mixed Media Landscape Painting

Finally a rainy day after all the heat!  I love the sun but not the extra heat although in the UK we should be grateful as it will probably be rainy and cold from here on in!  I digress about the weather but the paintings are often about the weather on the landscape.  Walking in the rain is a treat.  With this painting I wanted to capture the early morning rain as the sun rises.  You can't see the sun of course but you get a hazy foggy landscape.  Colour has to be heightened somewhat.  That's what artistic licence is all about!

'The Ruins' Mixed Media Landscape Painting

While visiting a National Trust heritage site recently, I came across some lovely old ruins.  At the time I wasn't able to capture much on site as I was busy pottering about and hanging out with some friends, but back at the studio, I wanted to preserve the feeling of the visit.  The history of these architectures are dubious and often negative but the good stuff is barely recorded and now their purpose has changed as they are preserved for a  modern audience.  Acknowledging the past especially negative stuff is important but that's all you can do.  You can't change it.  What you can change is the now and the future.

'Much Markle Summer' Watercolour Painting

A nice little jaunt around the Much Markle village.  Lots to visually represent.  My aim is to always extract an element of the landscape rather than the whole and sometimes it's what happens on the day.  Might be completely different on another day.  I like to keep the colour palette minimal!  Today it indigo and yellow, which really work for me.  The contrast of dark and light with pops of colour, to me, represent this really quite hot summers day!

'Kenilworth' Watercolour Painting

Kenilworth is one of my favourite places to visit.  You have the castle of course a great national trust heritage building with lots of British history but there is also the parks and the surrounding countryside.  Great for walking!  There is a little bench in the park across from the castle which is great for painting or just relaxing and taking in the view.

You know when you have been hiking for a bit and the view is in site just over the ridge. You almost want to run up! But yes been hiking for an hour so its gonna be 'walk with anticipation'!

'Grey Sky Walk with Pink' Acrylic Painting

Another great walk early morning. TBH it wasn't too dull at all and the greys and pinks work so well together! The great thing about morning walks currently is that there is not a lot of traffic about or people on the way.  Its pretty quiet.  Coming back though yes its rush hour so you have to enjoy the moment while you can.

'Walking at Twilight' Oil Painting

One of my Dorset walks at dusk. Just making my way back to the campsite after a day of adventures! There's still light in the sky with lots of ambient colours in the shrubbery, and when you shine your torch the colours are illuminated! #illumination
